Chocolatey Superfood Smoothie

smoothieAs much as I love cooking, and food and of course writing about it, sometimes it’s nice to take a day off and have someone else do it for you.

Luckily I have the loveliest older sister who is also as health orientated as I am, and  although to be honest she’s not the most keen or avid chef (she recently had to ask me how to make tea) on occasions when I just don’t feel like making breakfast, lunch or dinner, she steps in and just surprises the heck out of all of us with some delicious super healthy dish. I have a funny feeling that she’s a more capable cook then she lets on but just doesn’t want to let it be known. Because if you can cook in this house, you’re pretty much on duty every day!! Anyway, this morning she surprised me before I even got out of bed with an amazing chocolatey superfood smoothie! I was packed with anti-oxidants before my day had even begun! And on top of that she asked me if she could write the blog today and share her yummy-licious recipe! Of course, who am I to stop an eager blogger ? So here it is, Fifi’s

2 and ½ year old approved!!!

This morning I was giving my 2 and ½ year old William James his cereal and found there was no Almond milk left in the fridge. He can’t have dairy as he is allergic and to get more almond milk it would take a 20 minute drive. So I saw their was cans of coconut milk in the cupboard and decided to pour that over his spelt puffs as an alternative. Then I was left with ¾ of a can full of delicious coconut milk and felt inspired to make something delicious. And I wanted it to be chocolatey and super healthy at the same time. So I went rummaging in the cupboards and fridge to find Raw organic cacao nibs as you do, 100% natural milled chia seeds, hemp protein, bananas, strawberries and blueberries! I’m telling you our cupboards are a great ad for a health food store!

The healthy facts-:

Organic Coconut milk-  I recently wrote about the amazing health benefits of Coconut Milk here

Raw organic Cacao nibs- is one of nature’s greatest super foods. It’s the main ingredient in chocolate and when consumed in it’s raw unprocessed state it’s full of nutrients! Cacao has more antioxidants than blueberries, goji berries, red wine or green tea. It’s a great mood enhancer, aphrodisiac, helps heart function, brain power and increases the body’s alkinalinity.

100% Natural milled Chia Seed- is an ancient super food of the Aztecs. It is high in Omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants and phytonutrients. It’s also full of fibre and a good source of protein.

Raw vegan Hemp protein-  is another super food. It’s one of natures most complete and nutritious plant protein sources. It contains essential amino acids, good levels of omega 3 fats and is high in healthy plant fibre. It also helps a healthy heart, lower blood pressure, improve digestion, help with weight loss, increase energy and help keep cholesterol levels healthy.

Stevia- I used this to sweeten instead of sugar as it is 100 times sweeter than sugar and it doesn’t spike your insulin!

Fruit- Bananas, strawberries and blueberries! Well nobody needs to tells you fruit is good for you and Blueberries are of course a superfood too!

Here is the recipe-:

1 can of organic coconut milk

2 med size bananas

3 handfuls of raw organic cacao nibs depending on how chocolatey you want it

2 desert spoonfuls of 100% natural milled chia seeds

2 heaped desert spoonfuls of hemp protein (this makes it great as an post-workout shake)

4 med size strawberries

Handful of blueberries

One pack of powdered stevia (If you can’t get your hands on stevia try honey, agave nectar or maple syrup to sweeten)

Water and ice- this depends how thick you want the consistency start of with a little and add more if needed

Throw it all into the blender and blend until smooth. Pour in a glass and garnish with cacao nibs. Voila a delicious super food smoothie!

Serves 2-4

I had this as my breakfast and I was honestly full for hours after which is something for me because I’m always hungry!! Oh and William wanted more!

Thanks Fi!! And of course I wanted more too!! I can testify to it’s deliciousness. One of my new favourite smoothies!! I think we’ll have to get Fi in the kitchen more often now ;)

Hope you try this out and if you do let me know what you thought! Also if you have any awesome smoothie recipes to share please do!! Im always excited to try new kinds!! :-)

Love,

Thanks for your article. I have continually noticed that a lot of people are eager to lose weight simply because they wish to look slim and also attractive. On the other hand, they do not often realize that there are more benefits for losing weight additionally. Doctors say that overweight people come across a variety of illnesses that can be perfectely attributed to their particular excess weight. The great thing is that people that are overweight and also suffering from a variety of diseases can help to eliminate the severity of their illnesses by losing weight. You are able to see a continuous but notable improvement with health if even a bit of a amount of fat loss is realized.
