Im a huge instagram fan.
I literally could spend my whole day looking at amazing pictures of peoples healthy food creations, raw, vegan, vegetarian whatever! There is photo after photo on there that is just more beautifully created than the next. Not to mention countless pictures of gorgeous bodies from the girls who are eating these awesome healthy things! I have to say its extremely motivating and pretty inspiring to see so many people embracing a healthy life and making it look as delicious as all these instagramers are!
It really is too addictive though. I admit it, My name is Naomi and I think I might be a food porn addict. Okay okay, yeah, I am a food porn addict. But it all just looks so darn good!
One thing I’ve been seeing a lot of, is healthy meals and snacks beautifully presented in.. jars!! Jars..Jars.. everywhere … with all kinds of yummy things inside them. The most popular being something called “Oiaj”. Which seemingly stands simply for “Oats in a Jar”.
There’s every flavor oats , chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, blueberry, with all kinds of fruits, nuts, seeds, cacao, chia, & spice combinations thrown in on top to make gorgeously yummy looking breakfasts and snacks! Most people seem to make them up the night before and leave the oats to soak with all the flavors overnight.
Plus its beneficial to soak oats overnight as it breaks down a substance called phytic acid which when left in unsoaked oats can cause digestion problems!
Anyway, I decided to try my own version today as a late evening snack. It was such a gorgeous warm evening I enjoyed every chocolate-y vanilla-y berry-ish bit of it outside while sitting in the sun!! Totally yum and I’m excited to try more variations of OIAJ from now on 🙂
So here is how you make them… I didn’t soak my oats.. I just cooked them on the stove because I wanted it right then and there and didn’t have the patience to wait til tomorrow!
Creamy Chocolate Vanilla “OIAJ “Oats in a Jar, with Bananas and Berries
1 cup gluten free oats
1 cup coconut milk
1 tbsp organic cocoa powder
1 teaspoon honey
Cook on stove top until heated through.
Pour into a jar and top with strawberries, blueberries, bananas, almonds, or whatever you like! Makes a great breakfast or midday snack!
Eat & Enjoy,
